SACC Regional Round of the National Nature Photographic Competition

Date: Sunday, 25th January. 2009. Doors open at 10am.
Venue: Carraig Hotel, Carrick-on-Suir, Co. Tipperary

The competition rules, FIAF definition of Nature Photography and entry forms are available on the IPF website, www.irishphoto.ie and on the SACC website, www.saccinfo.com. Please note that there have been some additional rules added on 5th January 2009. These mainly concern digital entries but must be read, understood and complied with by all competitors. Members of SACC clubs wishing to enter the National Competition may only do so by achieving a qualifying score at this regional round.
All entries must comply with the FIAP definition of Nature Photography. The judges will have the right to determine, for the purposes of this competition, what does or does not comply with this definition. There are two categories (i) colour prints and (ii) colour projected images. Competitors may enter a maximum of three images per category. Projected images must all three be either colour slides or all three digital images - a mix is not acceptable.
The entry fee, as published on the entry form, is €5 for one section and €8 for two sections.
As the full entry fee for all qualifying images has to be paid to the IPF it will be necessary to charge an additional €3 entry fee to all persons attending the competition in order to cover expenses. We regret the necessity for this but we must cover the expenses of running the competition.

It is proposed to have two experienced judges from outside the SACC area for this qualifying round. They will each award points to entries and those attaining a qualifying total score will be forwarded to the National Competition. The qualifying score will be decided on the day of the competition so that approximately 50% of entries in each category will qualify.

SACC will award SACC gold medals to the entrants of the best image and certificates to the best faunal (ie animal, bird or insect) image and to the best vegetative (ie plants, fungi, mosses, lichens etc.) image in each category.

Print and slide entries, with entry fees and completed entry forms, will be accepted on the day of the competition from 10 am until 12 midday. Whilst every effort will be made to facilitate late arriving entries it would greatly assist if digital entries on non-returnable CDs, annotated as required by the National Competition rules, were sent to Francis Quigley, Carrick Camera Club Secretary, at Ross, Carrick-on-Suir, Co. Waterford to arrive not later than Friday, 23rd January. Entry fees for these will be payable at the competition before midday.

Prints and slides which do not qualify for the National Finals must be collected and removed immediately following the close of the SACC competition.

Important Panel Mounting Information
We have hired the mounting panels from another SACC Club. The method they recommend for fixing mounted prints is with Velcro which is removable without a tool. Therefore we would most politely request that all member clubs competing in the panel competition only use this method.
For those who have never used this method of mounting. You need 2 types of Velcro to enable them to lock together, namely the hook & mesh. These should be cut into 2 to 3 inch strips and fixed diagonally in each corner on the back of the mount. Firstly fit the hook Velcro removing the tape covering the adhesive, then press the mesh Velcro into the hook section, keeping the adhesive tape intact until ready for mounting. But not to worry there will be plenty of help on the day if you are unsure.
We also politely request that the boards be totally cleaned when you remove your prints.
We would also appreciate that all prints remain in position until after the judging results, as this exhibition will be open to the public and will be extensively publicised in the Local & County press, also on local radio stations.

For the Photographers Partner (if a non-photographer); If the weather is fine Dungarvan & County Waterford holds a wealth of Scenic Walks & Drives, in fact far too many to detail here, but we will ensure there is literature available in the Hotel and B&B.
If poor weather there is a multiplex cinema close by, showing the latest film releases.

The Last Word (for the moment).
